Samsung will be releasing its latest foldable phone, the Galaxy Z Fold 7, sometime later this year. Although the company has not made the information official, rumors and leaks have already provided us with a decent idea of what to look forward to. Among the most-discussed features is the camera setup, which will see a massive upgrade, putting it among the best things about the new phone.
Galaxy Z Fold 7 will boast a humongous 200-megapixel primary camera sensor
As per recent reports, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will boast a humongous 200-megapixel primary camera sensor. This is a huge jump from the 50-megapixel sensor of its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 6, and even the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Fold 4 prior to that. The 200-megapixel sensor is not entirely new to Samsung's family, however. It first made an appearance in the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, which was released last year but only for the Korean and Chinese markets. The same sensor is utilized in the Galaxy S25 Ultra as well. Though the main camera is receiving a significant boost, the rest of the camera system will presumably stay pretty much the same.
Device will be even thinner compared to its previous generation
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is said to maintain the 12-megapixel ultra-wide and 10-megapixel telephoto cameras from the earlier versions. The cover screen will also continue to feature a 10-megapixel front camera. But the under-display camera, located under the folding screen, is also said to be upgraded. Although the nature of this enhancement is not clear, it is set to deliver higher image resolution and quality than the existing 4-megapixel sensor. Apart from the camera, several other enhancements are also anticipated for the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Leaked details indicate the device will be even thinner compared to its previous generation, measuring a mere 4.5mm when open and approximately 9.5mm when folded in, incorporating the camera bump.
Samsung could go with a 7-core version of this chip
Without the bump, the thickness would be nearer to 9mm, which would make it thinner and more pocket-friendly. The screen is also expected to increase a bit, with the inner screen increasing to 8.2 inches and the outer screen to 6.5 inches. Internally, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is reported to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, which is the same processor used in the Galaxy S25 series. There's speculation that Samsung could go with a 7-core version of this chip, although this has not been confirmed. Although there have been some reports of a potential Exynos 2500 variant for specific regions, this does not look likely considering Samsung's close cooperation with Qualcomm in the Snapdragon 8 Elite.
Galaxy Z Fold 7 is rumored to carry over the 4,400mAh battery size
Battery life, however, won't undergo any significant alteration. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is rumored to carry over the 4,400mAh battery size of its predecessors. Of course, improvements in efficiency due to the new chipset may still result in improved overall battery life, but real-world testing will be required to verify this. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is rumored to release alongside the Z Flip 7 in July this year, keeping the same schedule as its predecessor.
