Dr. RK Jaswal, Director of Cardiology at Fortis, confirmed that Mann has shown “significant improvement” in his clinical parameters. “The Chief Minister is stable and responding well to antibiotics,” Dr. Jaswal stated, adding that Mann’s vitals are completely normal.
What is Leptospirosis?
Leptospirosis is a bacterial infection that impacts both humans and animals, making it the most widespread zoonotic disease globally. The bacteria, *Leptospira*, thrive in contaminated water or soil and can persist for weeks. People contract the disease through direct contact with these sources or infected animal fluids. Symptoms, which may include fever, headaches, and muscle pain, can take 2 to 30 days to develop. Antibiotics such as penicillin or doxycycline are used for treatment. Untreated cases may lead to serious complications like kidney or liver damage, respiratory issues, or death. The disease is more common in tropical, rainy climates, increasing risk for those living in or visiting regions such as Oceania, the Caribbean, and Southeast Asia.
