Manipur assembly passes resolution urging implementation of NRC, calls for expulsion of illegal campers
The Manipur Assembly has once again passed a resolution demanding the implementation of the NRC in the state.
The Manipur government had claimed in its proposal for 2022 that the population growth rate in the state between 1971 and 2001 was more than 153 percent, while between 2001 and 2011, the growth rate was about 251 percent. According to a previous proposal by Janata Dal United MLA KH Joykishan, the population growth rate in the valleys was nearly 95 percent between 1971 and 2001 and 125 percent between 2001 and 2011.
People infiltrating illegally from Myanmar
Manipur is a border state of India and shares its border with Myanmar. It is said that infiltration from the neighboring country happens every day. It has also reportedly seen an increase in recent years. Many such reports have also come to light that people are infiltrating into Manipur after suffering the brunt of Myanmar's military rule. After the coup in Myanmar, many soldiers and common people of the neighborhood saved their lives and entered Manipur, India.
People living illegally will be identified
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh said last month that those who came to Manipur illegally since 1961 would be extradited. In May last year, violence broke out in the north-eastern state of Manipur. Dozens of people were killed in this. The state government claims that some people coming from neighboring Myanmar have created problems.
People born after 1961 should be thrown out of the country
In the 2022 resolution passed by the Manipur Assembly, 1961 was considered the base year, and it was said that a plan was made to identify the people coming after that and send them back. It was said that only by doing this could the Inner Line Permit (IPP) be properly implemented. However, experts believe that there can be problems with this also and it can be difficult to identify people.
