Delhi police seize Cocaine worth Rs 2,000 crore in major drug bust, four arrested
This bust follows the recent arrest of two Afghan nationals, Hashimi Mohammad Waris and Abdul Nayib, during a raid in Tilak Nagar, where police seized 400 grams of heroin and 160 grams of cocaine.
New Delhi: In a significant drug operation, Delhi Police have confiscated over 560 kg of cocaine, estimated to be worth ₹2,000 crore, marking one of the largest drug seizures in the capital's history. The cocaine was found in South Delhi, and authorities have apprehended four individuals linked to the case.
Unraveling an international drug syndicate
Preliminary investigations suggest that an international drug syndicate, allegedly operated by Afghan nationals, is behind this operation. This bust follows the recent arrest of two Afghan nationals, Hashimi Mohammad Waris and Abdul Nayib, during a raid in Tilak Nagar, where police seized 400 grams of heroin and 160 grams of cocaine.
Waris, who has been living in India under refugee status since January 2020, was employed at a chemist shop in Vikaspuri before becoming involved in the drug trade. A police official noted, "He entered the business after a friend contacted him, offering him $100 for each delivery." Waris reportedly received shipments from various sources across Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) and distributed them to buyers. Nayib, also a registered Afghan refugee, relocated to India in January 2020 with his father. According to police sources, he met Waris at the same chemist's shop, where Waris persuaded him to enter the drug business, promising a lavish lifestyle.
Connections to Manipur drug smuggling operations
Earlier this year, Delhi Police arrested four individuals involved in transporting drugs from violence-prone areas in Manipur and other regions. These suspects utilized high-end vehicles to smuggle opium and heroin, which were later sold to clubs in South Delhi.
