Jofra Archer's second Rajasthan Royals appearance did not exactly go according to plan when Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) posted an enormous score of 286 on the board, the second biggest score in league history. Archer gave away 76 runs over four overs and did not register even a solitary wicket. Jofra Archer made history in his first game for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in his second season for the side against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad on Sunday (March 22) as the home side batsmen picked up from where they had left off last season.
Heinrich Klaasen had a crucial cameo of 34 runs off 14 balls
SRH clocked the second highest in IPL history with Ishan Kishan leading the scoring. Abhishek Sharma had provided them with a fast start with a 24 off 11 balls and a 45-run opening partnership in 19 balls. Travis Head also played another powerful knock as he scored 67 runs in 31 balls. But it was Ishan Kishan who stole the limelight on his franchise debut with a 45-ball century. Heinrich Klaasen, on the other hand, had a crucial cameo of 34 runs off 14 balls.
Jofra Archer sets unwanted record
RR's stand-in captain Riyan Parag surprised most by choosing not to introduce Archer into the fray until the fifth over till when SRH already had 55 runs on the board. Yet, the introduction of the English pacer did not do wonders for the 2008 champions as he allowed 73 runs in his four overs. Archer is the first bowler to let in more than 70 runs in an inning and holds the not so pleasant record for the most costly spell in IPL history. Archer turned out for RR from 2018 through 2020 before not being able to play in the 2021 season because of injury.
RR inked for Rs. 12.5 crore after a bidding battle against MI
The winner of the 2019 World Cup picked up the Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award for the 2020 season. He was picked up by Mumbai Indians for Rs. 8 crore in the 202 mega auction even though he was not available that year. The English sensation could only play five games for MI in 2023 before suffering another injury blow. He was released prior to the 2023 season by the Mumbai franchise and did not put his name in the auction.
Archer had not originally got his name registered for the 2025 IPL mega auction but was included on the last day before the auction.
