There are two days remaining for the Indian Premier League to start. For this competition, the BCCI has introduced a rule which can cause a ruckus in world cricket. Let us find out what big decision the BCCI has made. Before the Indian Premier League 2025, the BCCI has made such a significant decision. This decision can shock world cricket.
BCCI has made up its mind to introduce a new rule
The BCCI has made up its mind to introduce a new rule in the day-night matches of IPL 2025. According to this, 3 balls will be utilized in the match. In the captain's conference organized in Mumbai, it was announced that now a new ball will be utilized in the first innings in IPL matches, whereas the second-innings chasing team will receive 2 new balls.
Employment of a fresh ball after the 11th over
As per the new rule, a new ball will be introduced after the 11th over in the second innings. The primary reason for this alteration is due to the impact of dew during night matches, which causes difficulties for the bowlers. The dew keeps the ball slippery, and the bowlers lose control over the ball. This provides the advantage of an extra day to the team that wins the toss.
Effect of dew
The BCCI feels that this regulation will minimize the impact of dew and make the match more even. This will also minimize the team winning the toss's advantage. But the query is whether the team saving the score in the second innings will receive the new ball fully or half-new? If a complete new ball is discovered, the bowling team, particularly the spinners, could be affected.
Use of saliva
The BCCI has made another significant move prior to IPL 2025. Now bowlers can use saliva, which was prohibited since Covid-19. The BCCI has sanctioned it. This can be observed in international cricket too.
