Sports News: Despite Pakistan’s recent success against England, internal strife within the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has led to another shake-up. Gary Kirsten, Pakistan’s white-ball coach, is set to leave his post following disagreements over management and selection processes. Reports indicate Kirsten’s resignation was fueled by a “difference of opinions” with the PCB, particularly over the board’s refusal to appoint Kirsten’s preferred high-performance coach, David Reid.
Kirsten, who joined in May, grew frustrated with PCB's alternative choices, which reportedly did not align with his vision. This lack of consensus has led Kirsten, a seasoned coach who led India to a World Cup win in 2011, to step down just four months into his tenure. ESPNcricinfo revealed an increasing “rift” between Kirsten and the PCB, heightened by decisions that removed his say in team selections for the Australia tour.
With Kirsten’s resignation now accepted by the PCB, former Australian fast bowler and Test coach Jason Gillespie will take over as Pakistan’s white-ball coach. In a statement, the PCB said, “The Pakistan Cricket Board today announced Jason Gillespie will coach the Pakistan men’s cricket team on next month’s white-ball tour of Australia after Gary Kirsten submitted his resignation, which was accepted.”
Gillespie, who previously coached Pakistan to a series victory against England, now assumes a dual role as all-format coach. The PCB chose Gillespie over popular candidate Aaqib Javed, who will remain a selector.
Pakistan faces further transition with Mohammad Rizwan stepping in as the white-ball captain after Babar Azam stepped down. Pakistan’s 15-member squad will travel to Australia in preparation for their opening ODI on November 4.
