Nowadays a bulb lasts for 2-3 years. It then burns or breaks. But there is also a bulb in this world that has been burning for more than 100 years and is still burning today. The name of this bulb is "Centennial Light". It is the world's longest-lasting light bulb, located at Fire Station No. 6 in Livermore, California, USA. This bulb has been burning for 123 years and is still working. It was first lit in 1901 and has been burning ever since.

Learn about the special features of this bulb

Now let's know what's special in this bulb. Actually, this bulb was made by the Shelby Electric Company. It is a handmade carbon-filament bulb, made using the technology of that era. Initially, it had 60 watts of power, but now it only gives out 4 watts of light, which glows like a light orange color.

Long-term combustion state

The reason why it burns for so long is because of its design and use. It is believed that its thick fiber and low burning temperature make it durable. Moreover, it was seldom closed. This reduced the effects of thermal shock (sudden changes in temperature).

History of the bulb

This bulb was donated in 1901 by a local businessman from Livermore. Initially it was used in a shop, then in 1903 it was given to the fire department. In 1976 it was given a permanent place in the fire station and since then it has become a center of attraction there. But then it turned on, it set a world record.

Guinness World Record set

It has been described as "the world's most durable light bulb" and has been burning for more than 1 million hours so far. Even today, this bulb burns at the fire station and can be seen live 24 hours through webcam. People consider it a "symbol of stability" and come from far and wide to see it. Scientists believe that these bulbs, made with old technology, were more powerful than modern bulbs, although they emit less light. This bulb is not only an engineering marvel but has also become a historical and cultural heritage
