Youth strangles woman after harassment; Victim’s death sparks outrage in Gaya
In Gaya's Fatehpur area, a young man allegedly harassed a village woman after finding her alone at home. He then strangled her, leaving her unconscious. She was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but succumbed to her injuries six days later.
A 20-year-old woman from Ginjoi Khurd village in Gaya district succumbed to her injuries during treatment at RIMS hospital in Ranchi, a week after being assaulted and strangled by a local youth. The horrifying incident, which occurred on November 13, has left the community in shock.
Incident Details
The victim, identified as Karishma Kumari, was alone at home when the accused, Ravi Saw, entered around 8 a.m. Ravi reportedly attempted to harass her before using a dupatta to strangle her and tying her hands and legs. He then fled the scene, leaving her unconscious.
When her family returned, they found Karishma in a critical condition, bleeding from her nose and mouth, with her clothes disheveled. She was rushed to a private hospital in Gaya and later referred to Ranchi’s RIMS hospital on November 16. Despite intensive treatment, she passed away on the night of November 19.
Previous Conflict
Karishma's brother, Mithun Sharma, disclosed that a confrontation had occurred just a day before Diwali when Ravi harassed and threatened her. Karishma informed her mother, who lodged a complaint with Ravi’s family. However, the accused committed the brutal act just 20 days later, disregarding the warning.
Police Investigation
Fatehpur police station in-charge, Prashant Kumar Singh, confirmed that an FIR was registered based on the family’s account. Following Karishma's death, murder charges have been added to the case. The accused, who has been absconding since the incident, is being actively pursued by the authorities.
The tragic death has raised serious concerns about women's safety and law enforcement in the region, sparking calls for swift justice.
