In a shocking late-night attack, Congress leader and alleged history-sheeter Hyder Ali was hacked to death near Garuda Mall, Ashoknagar, in Bengaluru around 1:30 AM on February 23. The gruesome murder, carried out by unidentified assailants armed with machetes, has sent shockwaves through the city.

Ali was riding home on a bike with a friend after attending a live band event when a group of attackers blocked his path using a car. The gang then brutally assaulted him, leaving him in a pool of blood before fleeing the scene. His friend sustained critical injuries and is currently battling for his life in a local hospital.

Who was Hyder Ali?

However, he was also a notorious rowdy-sheeter with 11 criminal cases, including attempted murder, registered against him in Ashoknagar police jurisdiction. His criminal history dates back to 2014, though police records indicate that he had not been linked to any offenses since 2022. Officials clarified that while Ali had political connections, he was not a formal Congress leader, though his elder brother was a prominent social worker.

Police investigation underway

Following the gruesome execution-style killing, authorities have launched a full-scale probe, ruling out political vendetta and linking the attack to past criminal cases. DCP H.T. Shekhar confirmed that a special investigation team (SIT) has been formed to identify and track down the killers.
