Visa dispute turns violent: Travel agent kidnapped, beaten in Mullanpur
Ludhiana: A Mullanpur-based woman and her aides allegedly kidnapped and assaulted a travel agent over a ₹3 lakh visa dispute after her nephew was deported from Russia.

Ludhiana: A shocking case of abduction and assault has emerged from Mullanpur, where a woman and her aides allegedly kidnapped and thrashed a travel agent over a visa dispute. The accused, identified as Jasveer Kaur, Raju, Bunty (all from Mullanpur), along with Gurbaz Singh, Kamaljit Kaur, and Meva Singh, reportedly lured the agent under pretenses and then attacked him, demanding a refund of ₹3 lakh.
Visa dispute turns ugly
According to the police, the victim, Lovinder Singh, a travel agent from New Azad Nagar, Bapu Market, Lohara, had arranged a Russian visa for Amritpal Singh, the nephew of Jasveer Kaur, charging ₹3 lakh for the process. Amritpal flew to Russia, but upon reaching the airport, he was allegedly deported back to India. This led to a dispute over the refund, with the accused demanding their money back.
Enraged by the deportation, Jasveer Kaur and her associates conspired to recover the amount. She contacted Lovinder Singh near the Verka Milk Plant on Ferozepur Road, claiming her husband needed visa assistance. However, when Lovinder arrived, he was forcibly abducted and taken to Mullanpur, where the accused assaulted him while demanding their money back.
Police investigation and FIR registered
Inspector Neeraj Chaudhary, Sarabha Nagar SHO, revealed that Lovinder Singh claimed Amritpal had returned voluntarily, while Amritpal maintained that he had been deported by Russian authorities. This discrepancy fueled the demand for a refund.
Lovinder’s ordeal ended when he managed to contact a mutual acquaintance, who assured the kidnappers that the money would be returned. Following this, the accused released him, and he immediately approached the Sarabha Nagar police to file a complaint.
Based on his statement, an FIR has been registered against the accused under Sections 140(3) (kidnapping), 191(3) (rioting with deadly weapons), 190 (unlawful assembly), and 61(2) (criminal conspiracy). Police have launched a manhunt to apprehend the suspects.
