New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu delivered a significant address to the nation on the eve of India's 76th Republic Day, emphasizing the core values enshrined in the Constitution and their relevance to contemporary society.

Heritage of Justice and Equality

In her speech, President Murmu asserted that "justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity have always been part of India's civilizational heritage." She highlighted that the Constitution serves as the ultimate foundation of Indian identity, binding citizens together as a family. This living document reflects civic virtues that have guided India for millennia.

A Tribute to Constitutional Architects

The President expressed gratitude towards Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar and other members of the drafting committee for their pivotal role in shaping the Constitution. She noted that the last 75 years have witnessed remarkable progress, attributing much of this advancement to the principles laid out in the Constitution.

President Murmu discussed recent governmental reforms aimed at enhancing welfare, stating, "The government has redefined the notion of welfare, making basic necessities a matter of entitlement." She also introduced the 'One Nation One Election' initiative, which aims to streamline governance and reduce financial burdens associated with frequent elections.

Focus on Criminal Law Reform

In addressing legal reforms, she remarked on the transition from colonial-era laws to new frameworks designed to prioritize justice over punishment. The new criminal laws emphasize countering crimes against women and children, reflecting a commitment to modernize India's legal landscape. As India prepares for its Republic Day celebrations, President Murmu's address serves as a reminder of the nation's foundational values and ongoing commitment to social justice and equality.
