Tripura: Assam Rifles seizes Yaba tablets worth Rs 12.8 crores in major drug bus

New Delhi: In a significant anti-drug operation, Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Customs Department, seized 80,000 Yaba tablets from the Hezamara area of Tripura on Saturday. The confiscated Yaba tablets, valued at Rs 12.8 crores, were found in the West Tripura district’s Hezamara region.

Yaba: A dangerous illicit drug 

Yaba, an illegal and highly addictive stimulant, is banned in India under the Controlled Substances Act. This seizure marks a crucial step in curbing the distribution and use of this potent drug in the region.This recent operation follows another major bust on July 13, where Assam Rifles apprehended three individuals and seized heroin worth over Rs 7 crore near the Nuiland-Dimapur road. According to an official release, “Acting on specific intelligence of drug movement through the Nuiland-Dimapur road, Assam Rifles set up a Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) on July 10, 2024, near the fourth mile.”

Details of the heroin seizure

During the check, Assam Rifles intercepted a vehicle and, after a thorough search, recovered 1,134 grams of suspected heroin valued at approximately Rs 7,93,80,000. The contraband was concealed in 81 plastic soap cases, meticulously hidden to avoid detection. Three individuals were arrested at the scene in connection with the smuggling activities. The seized arms, ammunition, magazines, and stores were handed over to the Nagaland Police for further investigation.
