Tragedy Strikes: Bengali dancer Amarnath Ghosh succumbs to gun violence in America
Famous small-screen actress Devoleena Bhattacharjee was familiar with Amarnath. He has appealed to the Indian Government for help in this matter.
Kuchipudi and Bharatanatyam dancer Amarnath Ghosh, a resident of Suri in the Birbhum district of West Bengal, was allegedly shot dead in America on Tuesday. Amarnath was pursuing his PhD at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.
His friends and colleagues have appealed to the Indian Government and the US Embassy for help through social media. According to Ghosh's website, Amarnath was pursuing a Master in Fine Arts (MFA) degree in dance from Washington University.

Famous small screen actress Devoleena Bhattacharjee was familiar with Amarnath. He also gave information about Amarnath's murder in a tweet. He tweeted, 'My friend Amarnath Ghosh was shot dead in America on Tuesday evening.'
Devoleena further wrote, 'Amarnath was the only one in his family. His mother had died just 3 years ago while his father had passed away when he was young. Why he was killed and who the accused is is not known at present. Apart from his friends, there is no one left in his family who can fight for him. He was from Kolkata. He was a brilliant dancer and was doing his PhD. When he went out for a walk in the evening, a stranger showered bullets on him. Devoleena has also appealed to the Government of India to intervene in this matter and find out the accused and the reason for the murder.

Amarnath's uncle said, 'We came to know about Amarnath's murder through my sister living in Delhi. We don't know why he was murdered. I have come to the Suri police station to gather information about this case. His house is here.
Kuchipudi dancer Srimai Vempati said that on Wednesday she received a call from a classmate of Amarnath who said that Amarnath was missing. After 24 hours, it was discovered that he had been murdered. Amarnath was a student of Shrimayi.
