They are biggest player: PM Modi slams Congress for dividing tribals, hindering Maharashtra’s growth
Maharashtra News: With the Maharashtra elections scheduled for November 20 and results expected on November 23, PM Modi expressed confidence that the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance would win the state with a substantial majority, signaling a decisive shift in Maharashtra’s political landscape.
Maharashtra News: On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a sharp attack on the opposition alliance, Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), calling them the “biggest players” in corruption. The alliance, comprising Congress, NCP (SCP), and Shiv Sena (UBT), has long been accused of stalling progress in Maharashtra, PM Modi stated during a public rally in Chimur, Maharashtra.
MVA Experts in Stalling Development
PM Modi criticized the Maha Vikas Aghadi for hindering development in Maharashtra, particularly regarding rail connectivity. "The people of Maharashtra have been demanding rail connectivity for decades, but Congress and the Aghadi parties have continuously obstructed it," the Prime Minister remarked. He emphasized that the Aghadi parties have a track record of putting brakes on the state’s progress. "Stopping, hindering, and misleading — these are the skills Congress excels at. The Aghadi is, in other words, the biggest ‘khiladi’ (player) in corruption," he added.
PM Modi Targets Congress Over Tribal Division Plans
In his address, PM Modi also took aim at Congress’s alleged attempt to divide the tribal community. “The tribal population in India is around 10%. Congress wants to split the Adivasi community into castes and weaken them. They want to instigate internal conflict and disrupt the unity of the community," he said. Modi warned that such efforts would erode the identity and strength of the Adivasi community, emphasizing the need for unity in the face of these divisive tactics. His comments were a direct reference to Rahul Gandhi’s support for a caste census, a plan seen by some as divisive for tribal groups.
Congress and Article 370: A Legacy of Division
PM Modi also highlighted the controversial history of Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir. “Congress and its allies have politically benefitted from separatism and violence," Modi remarked, referring to the decades of unrest in the region. He praised the BJP for abolishing Article 370 and fully integrating Jammu and Kashmir into the Indian Constitution, ending its decades-long legacy under Congress rule.
Attacking the Gandhi Family’s Legacy
The Prime Minister further accused the Gandhi family of monopolizing political power in India. He suggested that after independence, Congress intentionally kept Dalits, backward classes, and Adivasis from progressing. "The Congress has always been uncomfortable with the topic of reservations. In the 1980s, under Rajiv Gandhi, they even published an advertisement questioning the special rights of Dalits, backward classes, and Adivasis," Modi said.
