Prayagraj is set to host a three-day International Bird Festival from February 16 to 18, 2025, during the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela. This event aims to promote environmental conservation and biodiversity, offering a unique opportunity for nature enthusiasts, ornithologists, and devotees to observe over 200 species of migratory and local birds. 

Festival highlights

Competitions and Educational Activities: The festival will feature photography, painting, slogan writing, debates, and quiz competitions to raise awareness about bird conservation. National and international experts will share insights in technical sessions and panel discussions. 

Prizes: The government has allocated a total of ₹21 lakhs in prizes, with individual awards ranging from ₹10,000 to ₹5 lakhs for winners of various competitions. 

Bird Watching Opportunities: Attendees will have the chance to observe rare and endangered species such as the Indian Skimmer, Flamingo, and Siberian Crane. Thousands of migratory birds from countries including Siberia, Mongolia, and Afghanistan have arrived at the banks of the Ganga and Yamuna rivers in Prayagraj, showcasing unique flight patterns and group migrations. 

Eco-Tourism Initiatives: A special eco-tourism plan has been prepared, allowing visitors to participate in bird and nature walks with experts to learn about bird behavior, migration journeys, and their roles in the ecosystem. Cultural programs, street plays, and art exhibitions will further raise awareness about bird conservation and environmental balance.
