Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena has ordered a CBI inquiry against Satyendar Jain, who was a minister in the Delhi government. The Lieutenant Governor has ordered an investigation against the then Jail Minister Jain in the case of alleged extortion from the gangster Mukesh Chandrashekhar, lodged in Tihar Jail. Sukesh Chandrashekhar had alleged that Satyendar Jain, the then Director General of Tihar Jail and handling the Home Department, had taken Rs 10 crore from him as protection money. Sukesh had written a letter to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi in this regard. After this, LG has approved a CBI investigation against former Delhi minister and AAP leader Satyendar Jain.

Jail factor in the tale!

Satyendra Jain is accused of running an extortion racket from Tihar Jail in collaboration with former Tihar Jail DG Sandeep Goyal and demanding protection money from high profile prisoners in various jails in Delhi. Sukesh Chandrashekhar had claimed through his letter sent to the LG of Delhi on October 13 last year that 'I have not paid even a single rupee to any of the jail officials. My transaction only involved Satyendra Jain (AAP leader) and Sandeep Goyal (former DG Jail), who received protection money from me through my staff.
However, quoting Chandrashekhar's statement in its fourth supplementary chargesheet on April 6, the ED said that it was paying monthly security amounts to jail officials ranging from Rs 25 lakh for assistant superintendents to Rs 2 crore at the top level.

More on the findings

Chandrashekhar's claims in the letter to the LG surprised the investigators. He claimed that 'former DG Sandeep Goyal influenced the investigation, removed his name from the investigation and transferred the case to the junior officers of the jail. Sandeep Goyal, being a high-ranking officer at the time, ensured that his and Satyendar Jain's names were not included in the investigation in any way.
