Samajwadi party MP Ziaur Rahman Barq to face police grilling over November 24 violence

On 24 November, violence erupted when protests were carried out against the survey of Jama Masjid, in which four individuals were murdered and over 30 policemen injured. In the police inquiry, it was reported that MP Ziaur Rahman Barq might have a leading role in this violence. A case has been filed against the MP and there is a stay order from the High Court regarding his arrest.
MP's whereabouts in Delhi and Zafar Ali in suspicion
The police issued a notice to Ziaur Rahman Barq from his house in Delhi to assist the investigation and question the police on April 8. The probe has also found that the MP spoke to Jama Masjid chairman Zafar Ali over the phone prior to and after the violence. Zafar Ali had been arrested on March 23.

The police probe also established that the mastermind behind the violence, Mulla Afroz and Ghulam, assistants of international auto lifter Shariq Satha, who are in hiding in Dubai, had discussed political patronage of the violence. Ghulam also disclosed his familiarity with the Burke family, which is potentially a breakthrough in the probe.
