Maharashtra: Saif Ali Khan is recovering well after being stabbed by an intruder at his Bandra residence, with police investigation ongoing and support from his family and a heroic autorickshaw driver.
Maharashtra: Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan is recovering after an attack on him at his residence in Bandra early Thursday morning. The actor, who was 54, was stabbed a number of times by an unidentified intruder that also inflicted an injury on the neck. While the Mumbai Police have formed more than 30 teams to nab the attacker, the culprit continues to be at large.
Recovery of actor at Lilavati hospital
Saif Ali Khan was immediately shifted to the Lilavati Hospital in an autorickshaw for emergency surgery right after the incident. The medical reports regarding this incident claimed Saif to be recovering just nicely. Says Lilavati Hospital neurosurgeon, Nitin Dange, "We are watching for his development; he's coming along excellent enough according to expectations.". As per his progress, we have advised him bed rest, and if he is comfortable, then in two to three days, we will discharge him,” said Dr. Dange. The actor's condition has improved, and after a team of doctors checked on his progress, he was able to walk under supervision.
Investigation underway: Carpenter detained and released
A carpenter was taken into custody by the Mumbai Police in connection with the attack for resembling the intruder captured in CCTV footage near the actor's apartment. After questioning, however, he was released by the police. The authorities have also ruled out any underworld involvement and believe that the attacker may not even have known whose house he entered. It is suspected that the incident, which occurred at 2 a.m., was a robbery attempt.
Intruder's identity and the details of the attack
The assailant, as seen in the CCTV footage, was wearing a red scarf and carrying a backpack as he rushed down the stairs of Saif Ali Khan's 'Satguru Sharan' building. In the attack, the intruder stabbed the actor in multiple areas, including his neck, and the attack took place on the 12th floor of the building. Doctors later extracted a 2.5-inch knife fragment lodged in Saif's spine, noting that had it gone just 2 mm deeper, it could have caused life-threatening injuries.
Public support for Saif and heroic actions of autorickshaw driver
Saif Ali Khan's condition, though critical, was met with widespread praise as he walked into the hospital despite being soaked in blood. Dr. Dange praised his determination, saying he entered like "a lion." In a surprising turn, the autorickshaw driver, Bhajan Singh Rana, who ferried Saif to the hospital, is being hailed as a hero. Rana, who was unaware of his passenger's identity at the time, played a key role in ensuring the actor received prompt medical attention.
Kareena Kapoor Khan's statement
Saif's wife Kareena Kapoor Khan was also quizzed by the police. She was taken to their home, where a statement was recorded on Friday evening in the presence of Bandra Police officers. So far more than 30 statements have been collected as investigation goes on regarding details of an attack.
