New Delhi: India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar responded on the issue of deportation of alleged illegal Indian immigrants from the United States said in the Parliament, he said We are engaging the US government to ensure the returning deportees are not mistreated in any manner.

Speaking in Rajya Sabha on Indian citizens deported from US, EAM Dr S Jaishankar says, "The deportation by the US are organised and executed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement ( ICE) authority. The SOP of deportation by aircraft used by ICE which is effective from 2012 provides for the use of restraint. We have been informed by ICE that women and children are not restrained."

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann also commented on US deportation, he said “What America did is deeply regrettable. It is a matter of great shame for our country that America deports our citizens in handcuffs and shackles. Instead of providing relief to the Indians deported from the U.S., who are mentally and economically broken, PM Modi’s Haryana government taking them in police prisoner vans is like rubbing salt on their wounds.
