Results of Delhi election shakes up key battles across constituencies

Party hoppers played a decisive role in the Delhi elections, with ex-Congress, BJP, and AAP leaders switching sides. While some, like Arvinder Singh Lovely and Manjinder Singh Sirsa, secured wins, others, including Manish Sisodia and Jitender Singh Shunty, faced setbacks.

Several former members of Congress, BJP, and AAP contested under new party banners, leading to high-stakes battles and unexpected outcomes in the 2025 Delhi Assembly election. 

  Gandhi Nagar: Arvinder Singh Lovely’s big win 

In one of the most closely watched contests,BJP’s Arvinder Singh Lovely, a former Delhi Congress chief, secured a win in Gandhi Nagar, defeating AAP’s Naveen Chaudhary by 12,748 votes.Kamal Arora, who recently left AAP for Congress, finished a distant third.  

Jangpura: Manish Sisodia’s shocking defeat

  The Jangpura constituency saw a major upset as BJP’s Tarwinder Singh Marwah, a former Congress MLA, narrowly defeated AAP’s Manish Sisodia by just 675 votes.  

- Sisodia, a three-time MLA from Patparganj, had been shifted to Jangpura by AAP.  
- Marwah, who once criticized Sonia and Rahul Gandhi for ignoring him, joined BJP and took a dig at his former party leaders after his win.  

Chhatarpur: Ex-AAP leader takes BJP to victory 

 South Delhi’s Chhatarpur witnessed a battle between former allies:  

- BJP’s Kartar Singh Tanwar, a former AAP MLA, defeated AAP’s Brahm Singh Tanwar by 6,239 votes.  
- Kartar Singh Tanwar had previously won the seat for AAP before switching sides.

 Bijwasan: Kailash Gahlot retains his hold

Despite the shifting political landscape,former AAP minister Kailash Gahlot maintained his dominance in Bijwasan, winning by over 9,000 votes.  

- He contested against AAP’s Surender Bhardwaj and Congress Col Devinder Kumar Sehrawat, who originally won the seat in 2015 as an AAP candidate.  

Rajouri Garden: Manjinder Singh Sirsa cruises to victory
Manjinder Singh Sirsa, who moved from the Akali Dal to BJP, secured a decisive victory in Rajouri Garden by over 18,000 votes, reinforcing BJP’s stronghold in the constituency.  

Other key turncoat battles  

- In Shahdara, AAP’s Jitender Singh Shunty, a former BJP MLA, lost to BJP’s Sanjay Goyal.  - In Mangolpuri, BJP’s Rajkumar Chauhan, a former senior Congress minister, won by more than 6,000 votes.  

What these results mean  

The 2025 Delhi elections highlighted how party-switching can be both a blessing and a curse. While some leaders benefited from their new political homes, others struggled to gain voter trust. With these results, the BJP has successfully integrated key defectors, further consolidating its power in the national capital .
