Bengaluru: Police reported that on Friday, a 28-year-old Bangladeshi woman was found dead near Bengaluru's Ramamurthy area on Kalkere Lake. Preliminary investigations suggest the victim, who worked as a housemaid, was raped before being brutally murdered.
Discovery of the body
Locals found the victim's body early Friday morning in a deserted area near the lake. Authorities were notified of the incident right away. The police announced that the woman was married to a BBMP garbage cleaning worker and had been living in Bengaluru with her husband and three children for the last six years.
Timeline leading up to the incident
Police reports indicate that the victim told a colleague on Thursday that she had some personal errands to attend to and may return home late. When she failed to return, her husband filed a missing person complaint at the Ramamurthy Nagar police station.
An investigating officer speaking to the Hindustan Times said that, "Deceased is Bangladeshi citizen whose husband holds a passport, and there were medical visitation purposes here in India, she apparently reached there with mutual agreement. Further investigations suggest this lady was to meet someone to which there were quarrels on this matter that brought death." There is already enough evidence related to the grave nature of such crime. The police suspect an altercation between the victim and the accused turned into a fight, and a boulder was used to inflict fatal head injuries on her body. The case has been filed under IPC Section 376 (rape) and Section 302 (murder), and the police were waiting for the post-mortem report for further confirmation of cause of death.
Police investigation is on
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Devaraj of the Eastern Division visited the crime scene along with forensic experts and a dog squad. Speaking on the case, he said, "We received a call regarding the finding of a woman's body near Kalkere Lake. Preliminary inquiries suggest that it was a horrible crime where she was raped and murdered. Full-scale inquiry is being made to track down the culprit.
