Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday criticized the merit system in India, pointing to the plight of dalits and tribals for equal opportunities in governance and education. Again terming the merit system "unfair and totally flawed", the Leader of Opposition attacked those who are against the caste census and accused them of trying to conceal the truth.
Rahul Gandhi to moneycontrol
"Tere is entirely bogus idea about merit where I'm confusing social stature with competency. For anybody to claim our training system or bureaucratic entry gates to be right in dalits, OBCs and tribals this's pure fallacy," said Rahul Gandhi to Moneycontrol. The whole story is an upper caste story. This concept of merit is, in fact, itself an unjust notion," he said while engaging with Professor Sukhadeo Thorat.
Rahul also remembered Dr BR Ambedkar's historic Mahad Satyagraha
Rahul also remembered Dr BR Ambedkar's historic Mahad Satyagraha and said caste census is a crucial step towards unveiling the "truth of inequality and discrimination".He also posted the full interview video on X and said, "The struggle for share that started 98 years ago continues. Babasaheb Ambedkar challenged caste discrimination directly on 20 March 1927 with the Mahad Satyagraha. This was not merely a struggle for the right to water, but for equality and respect."
BJP Reacts
Responding to Rahul Gandhi’s statement, BJP National Spokesperson CR Kesavan said that Rahul Gandhi’s shocking outburst on merit clearly exposes the nepotistic and feudal mindset of Congress.
