The new enhanced payment of Rs.1 crore will significantly ease the financial burden of the families, who are already enduring the immense loss of their loved ones.

According to Defence Services Welfare Minister Mohinder Bhagat, the government is committed to the welfare of military personnel, their families, and ex-servicemen. Bhagat emphasized that the hike in the ex gratia amount is a reflection of the state's profound respect and gratitude towards the soldiers' supreme sacrifice in service to the nation.

Since the announcement, 24 families have already received the increased compensation. This move is expected to provide much needed financial stability and ensure that the sacrifices made by soldiers do not go unnoticed or unrecognized.

Doubling of ex gratia for disabled soldiers

The new scheme offers payments ranging from Rs. 10 lakh to Rs. 40 lakh, depending on the level of disability incurred during their service. This initiative is designed to support soldiers who have suffered permanent disabilities in the line of duty.

The welfare measures reflect a growing recognition of the hardships faced by military personnel who, even after retirement or service, continue to live with the physical and mental repercussions of their time in the forces. The Punjab government has now made it a priority to ensure that these soldiers receive adequate support for their service to the nation.

Commitment to ex-servicemen and their families
