Pulwama attack anniversary: Saluting bravehearts who lead down their lives for nation

On February 14, 2019, India witnessed one of its most devastating terrorist attacks when a suicide bomber targeted a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) convoy in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir. The attacker, Adil Ahmad Dar, a 22-year-old local resident, drove an explosives-laden vehicle into the convoy on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, resulting in the tragic loss of 40 CRPF personnel. 

Jaish-e-Mohammed training camp

The convoy, comprising 78 vehicles and transporting around 2,500 personnel, was en route from Jammu to Srinagar. The magnitude of the attack sent shockwaves across the nation and drew widespread international condemnation. In response to this heinous act, the Indian Air Force conducted airstrikes on a Jaish-e-Mohammed training camp in Balakot, Pakistan, on February 26, 2019. This marked a significant escalation, as it was the first time in decades that Indian fighter jets had crossed the Line of Control to strike targets within Pakistan. 

Fight against terrorism

In the years following the attack, the nation has consistently honored the memory of the fallen heroes. On the fifth anniversary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid homage, stating, "I pay homage to the brave heroes who were martyred in Pulwama. Their service and sacrifice for our nation will always be remembered." The Pulwama attack remains a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by India's security forces in the fight against terrorism. As the nation reflects on this tragedy, it reinforces its commitment to ensuring such incidents are never repeated and honors the bravery of those who laid down their lives in service to the country.
