New Delhi: BJP leader Parvesh Verma is facing a poll code violation complaint for allegedly distributing shoes to voters in the New Delhi constituency. This comes as he prepares for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections scheduled for February 5.

Delhi BJP leader Parvesh Verma is facing allegations of violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections scheduled for February 5. A complaint filed by the returning officer of the New Delhi constituency claims that Verma distributed shoes to electors, which is considered a corrupt practice under Section 123 of the Representation of People Act, 1951.

Complaint and Investigation Initiated

The complaint includes two videos showing Verma distributing shoes to women. The returning officer has directed the Mandir Marg Police Station to investigate the matter and take appropriate action. A non-cognizable report has been filed, and the police have launched an inquiry into the incident. Verma has denied the allegations, clarifying that he was only honoring sanitation workers at a temple and not distributing footwear to voters.

Verma's Denial and Clarification

Parvesh Verma rejected the accusations, stating that the incident was part of an act of honoring sanitation workers, not an election bribe. He further claimed that no shoes were distributed, and the act was done out of respect at a religious site. Despite this, the investigation is ongoing, and legal actions are being considered.

Verma's Nomination and Confidence Ahead of Polls

Verma has filed his nomination for the New Delhi seat, expressing confidence in his victory. Accompanied by hundreds of supporters, Verma visited the District Magistrate's office to submit his papers. He emphasized that his candidacy is focused on development and promised that the BJP would win the seat.
