New Delhi: The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has introduced new FASTag rules from today, February 17 to make toll payments easier. The new rules are aimed at streamlining toll transactions. These will also reduce fraud. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI)issued a circular in this regard. As of February 17, 2025, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has implemented new validation rules for FASTag balances, affecting toll payment processing across the country. These changes are designed to enhance the efficiency and security of electronic toll collections.

Key Changes Effective February 17, 2025:

Blacklisted FASTag Transactions:

Pre-Toll Blacklisting: If a FASTag has been blacklisted for more than 60 minutes before being read at a toll plaza, the transaction will be declined.
Post-Toll Blacklisting: If the FASTag remains blacklisted for at least 10 minutes after being read, the transaction will also be declined.
Implication: Users can no longer rely on immediate recharges at toll booths to clear a blacklisted FASTag. Maintaining an adequate balance and ensuring the FASTag is active well in advance is crucial to avoid transaction failures and potential penalties.

Scenarios to Consider:

Scenario 1: A FASTag blacklisted more than 60 minutes before reaching the toll and remaining blacklisted 10 minutes after will result in a declined transaction and likely a double toll charge.
Scenario 2: Recharging a blacklisted FASTag within 60 minutes before or 10 minutes after the toll transaction will allow for normal toll charges.
Scenario 3: If the FASTag is blacklisted at the time of crossing but recharged within 10 minutes afterward, users can request a refund for any penalty charges incurred.

Recommendations for FASTag Users

Maintain Sufficient Balance: Regularly check and top up your FASTag account to prevent blacklisting due to low funds.
Update KYC Details: Ensure your Know Your Customer (KYC) information is current to avoid deactivation or blacklisting of your FASTag.
Monitor FASTag Status: Before embarking on a journey, verify that your FASTag is active and not blacklisted. This can typically be done through your FASTag issuer's customer portal or mobile application.
By adhering to these guidelines, users can ensure seamless toll transactions and avoid unnecessary delays or penalties under the new FASTag regulations.
