New Delhi: The next Chief Minster (CM) of Delhi is expected to take oath on Thursday, February 20, at 4:30 PM, as per media reports. The swearing-in ceremony will be held at a gala event attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) bigwigs.The BJP made a historical comeback in the national capital after 27 years by defeating the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections.

Who Are The Potential Candidates?

While the party has not yet announced the name of the next CM, reports suggest that the decision is likely to be taken during its legislative meeting on February 19, As of February 17, 2025, the political landscape in Delhi is undergoing significant changes. Atishi Marlena, who became Delhi's Chief Minister on September 21, 2024, following Arvind Kejriwal's resignation, is expected to conclude her tenure soon, with her oath-taking ceremony having taken place at Raj Niwas. 

How Does BJP Pick Their CM?

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has achieved a substantial victory in the recent Delhi Assembly elections, ending a 26-year period out of power. Discussions regarding the selection of the new Chief Minister have intensified. Prominent figures such as Parvesh Verma, who notably defeated AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi constituency, are being considered for the position. Verma's campaign promises included urban development initiatives and employment opportunities.

BJP President JP Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have been actively consulting on the matter, with a decision expected soon.
