Mumbai police solve actor Saif Ali Khan’s stabbing case: Key evidence found
Mumbai: Saif Ali Khan was attacked in his Bandra apartment by a Bangladeshi national during a burglary attempt, with the accused caught after evading capture for three days.
Mumbai: In a shocking incident, a Bollywood actor was attacked by an assailant attempting to commit burglary at his Bandra apartment on January 16. Police said that the alleged assailant Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir was introduced as a Kolkata resident named Vijay Das. The Mumbai police revealed the true identity of the attacker during interrogation with the help of evidence that surfaced during questioning, said a police official on Monday.
Attacker's hiding spot revealed
Reportedly, after stabbing Khan multiple times, Fakir hid in the garden of Satguru Sharan building. The actor is a resident there. "He was scared and stuck in the garden before leaving from there," he said, sharing the findings with an investigator.
Fakir was caught at Thane, three days after the incident
Fakir initially attempted to mislead authorities, claiming he was from Kolkata. However, during questioning, he failed to provide any documents supporting his claim. Under pressure, he disclosed his real name and nationality. Investigators compelled Fakir to contact his family in Bangladesh, leading to his brother sending a school-leaving certificate to his mobile phone. The document became key evidence in verifying his Bangladeshi origins.
The attack and aftermath
The accused reportedly entered Khan's apartment in search of valuables. Police officials have not clarified whether Fakir specifically targeted Khan or was unaware of the resident's identity. In the attack, the 54-year-old actor received multiple stab wounds and had to undergo a five-hour surgery at Lilavati Hospital. Doctors have since confirmed that Khan is recovering well.
Legal proceedings and crime scene recreation
After his arrest, Fakir was sent to police custody for five days. Authorities have decided to recreate the crime scene at Khan's residence. "This will enable us to get a clearer idea of what transpired," said the official.

This incident raises an alarm over Bollywood celebrities' security. Khan's family and the industry have expressed relief over his recovery and are asking for stricter precautions against such incidents.
