The Incident Unfolded
On Thursday, Saif Ali Khan was attacked in his Bandra residence, suffering six stab wounds during a struggle with an intruder who attempted to rob him. The assailant fled the scene, prompting Khan's son, Ibrahim Ali Khan, to rush him to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai for emergency treatment. Following multiple surgeries, Saif is reportedly out of danger and recovering in the hospital.
Who is Vijay Das?
Vijay Das, previously employed at a pub in Mumbai, has been identified as the suspect under various aliases, including Bijoy Das and Mohammad Iliyas. The police are set to present him in court later today for remand proceedings. CCTV footage captured the attacker entering the Satguru Sharan building where Saif Ali Khan resides, using the staircase to access his 12th-floor apartment.
Eyewitness Accounts
At the time of the incident, Eliyamma Philips, also known as Lima, a member of Saif's household staff, was present and became the first to confront the assailant. In her attempt to thwart him, she sustained injuries to her hand. Her screams alerted Saif Ali Khan, who emerged from his room and engaged in a physical altercation with the attacker. Lima described the assailant as a slim, dark-complexioned man in his late thirties.
Aftermath of the Attack
Approximately six hours post-attack, CCTV footage showed the suspect purchasing headphones at a store in Dadar while wearing a blue shirt. Earlier that day, he was spotted at Bandra railway station before boarding a train. Actress Kareena Kapoor Khan, Saif's wife, informed authorities that during the scuffle, the assailant exhibited aggressive behavior but did not take any valuables from their home.
Saif Ali Khan's injuries were severe; he arrived at Lilavati Hospital with a knife embedded in his spine and spinal fluid leaking. Doctors confirmed that he underwent several surgeries and was moved to intensive care for observation. On Friday, Dr. Niraj Uttamani reported that Saif was recovering well and might be discharged soon.
