Mumbai: 86-Year-old business legend Ratan Tata in critical condition, faces health crisis under ICU
Ratan Tata took over as chairman of the Tata Group in 1991, succeeding his great-grandfather who founded the company more than a century ago.
New Delhi: Ratan Tata, chairman emeritus of Tata Sons, one of India’s largest conglomerates, is currently in critical condition and receiving intensive care in a Mumbai hospital, according to two sources familiar with the situation. Tata, 86, had previously disclosed on Monday that he was undergoing routine medical examinations due to his age and associated health conditions.
Statement on health sparks concerns
Despite his hospitalization, Tata’s representative has not yet issued an update on his condition. In a statement shared on his social media accounts earlier this week, Tata reassured the public, stating that he was in "good spirits" and there was "no cause for concern." However, as his condition appears to have worsened, concerns have grown about the well-being of the business icon, known for his significant contributions to the Indian economy.
Legacy of leadership at Tata group
Ratan Tata took over as chairman of the Tata Group in 1991, succeeding his great-grandfather who founded the company more than a century ago. Under his leadership, Tata Sons expanded its presence in various sectors, including the founding of Tata Teleservices in 1996 and taking Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) public in 2004. Even after stepping down as chairman in 2012, he was honored with the title of chairman emeritus for multiple Tata companies, including Tata Motors, Tata Steel, and Tata Chemicals.
