Maoist Bastion falls: 31 Maoist guerrillas by security forces
Security forces neutralize 31 Maoists in Indravati National Park, marking a critical blow to insurgent operations in Chhattisgarh.

Chhattisgarh: In a landmark offensive, security forces have eliminated 31 Maoist guerrillas within Chhattisgarh's Indravati National Park, a former rebel bastion. This significant victory comes on the heels of successful operations in Abujmarh, further eroding Maoist strongholds in the region. The government has reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating Maoist influence in Chhattisgarh by the end of March.
Maoist stronghold crumbles in Bastar region
In a decisive strike against Maoist insurgents, security forces gunned down 31 Maoists in Chhattisgarh's Indravati National Park, a longtime rebel stronghold. The high-intensity encounter, which also claimed the lives of two security personnel, marks one of the most significant blows to Maoist operations in recent years.
Deadly encounter in the dense forests
Acting on intelligence inputs, a joint team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Special Task Force (STF) launched a search operation deep inside Indravati National Park. The insurgents, heavily armed and stationed in the forest, opened fire, triggering a fierce gun battle that lasted for hours. By the end of the operation, 31 Maoists lay dead, while security forces seized a large cache of weapons, including AK-47 rifles, INSAS rifles, and grenade launchers.
A Lost Maoist bastion
The Indravati National Park, known for its dense terrain and inaccessibility, had long served as a Maoist sanctuary. This encounter follows a recent security crackdown in Abujmarh, another key Maoist hub, signaling a massive loss of territory for the insurgents. Officials believe these back-to-back operations have pushed Maoist rebels into retreat, significantly weakening their presence in Chhattisgarh.
Government’s strong stand against Maoists
With this victory, the government’s anti-Maoist strategy appears to be gaining momentum. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has set a target to eliminate Maoist influence in the region by March 26, and this operation brings security forces closer to that goal. Officials emphasize that more search and combing operations will continue to ensure no insurgent hideouts remain.
What's the next plan?
While this operation has been a success, security forces remain on high alert, anticipating possible retaliatory strikes by Maoist factions. With their strongholds collapsing, experts predict a major shift in Maoist strategies, potentially leading to desperate counterattacks or further retreats. The battle against insurgency in Chhattisgarh is far from over, but this victory has undoubtedly tilted the scales in favor of the forces.
