Jalgaon: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday attended the 'Namo Wrestling Mahakumbh 2.0' in Jamner, Jalgaon on Sunday.Addressing the event, CM Fadnavis said wrestling is our traditional game and our wrestlers are doing well at the international level.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis attended the 'Namo Wrestling Mahakumbh 2.0' in Jamner, Jalgaon, on February 17, 2025. During the event, he emphasized that wrestling is a traditional sport of Maharashtra, noting that while the state excelled in traditional wrestling, it lagged behind after transitioning to the mat format. He highlighted the state's recent success in winning its first Olympic medal in wrestling and acknowledged the achievements of current wrestlers on the international stage.

First Olympic medal in wrestling

At the event, CM Fadnavis honored Indian wrestlers Vijay Chaudhary, Prithviraj Patil, and female wrestler Sonali Mandlik for their victories. The gathering also included dignitaries such as Union Minister of State Raksha Khadse, Maharashtra ministers Gulabrao Patil and Girish Mahajan, MP Smitatai Wagh, former minister and MP Anil Patil, along with MPs Suresh Bhole, Mangesh Chavan, Sanjay Kute, Amol Jawale, and Anup Agarwal. Additionally, President of Kustagir Sangh and former MP Ramdas Tadas were present.

Encourage youth participation

In his address, CM Fadnavis reaffirmed the government's commitment to preserving Marathi education, stating that no Marathi school would be closed. He mentioned that instructions have been given to ensure that Marathi is taught in all schools, whether Marathi or Hindi medium, and that a mechanism is being set up to ensure proper implementation of this directive.The 'Namo Wrestling Mahakumbh 2.0' served as a platform to celebrate and promote the sport of wrestling in Maharashtra, bringing together prominent wrestlers and officials to discuss the future of the sport and encourage youth participation.
