The session of the house was adjourned until 2pm while Om Birla requested opposition members to refrain from wearing shirts with slogan print. The Speaker responded through his action because DMK party members displayed t-shirts bearing slogans which protested against the breakup of parliamentary districts.

Om Birla wearing t-shirts featuring slogans

As per Om Birla wearing t-shirts featuring slogans contradicted parliamentary rules of decorum hence he chose to halt the legislative session until noon. The institution of House follows established procedures and rules system. Every member must preserve both the dignity and honorable status of the House. Although certain MPs are breaking parliamentary procedures their violations against the House's dignity remains unacceptable according to him.

Parliamentary regulations

DMK members attempted to bring the matter before Lok Sabha although the Speaker maintained the issue was not urgent because no population census existed at that time.Members who had not followed parliamentary regulations regarding their clothing received orders from Om Birla to leave the House premises and re-enter with the proper attire."However large a leader is, such unbecoming dress is not allowed within the House. Go out, change your clothes and return with a decent dress," he said. But when the House met again at noon, there was no change in dress and TDP member Krishna Prasad Tenneti, who was in the chair, adjourned the proceedings until 2 pm."House is a place with rules and procedure.

Industrialist Gautam Adani

The Members are required to uphold the dignity and honour of the House. Some MPs, however, are flouting rules and compromising on the dignity which cannot be tolerated," Birla told the House during the proceedings that started at 11 am. Opposition has employed the use of clothes as a tool of protest within parliament previously also, causing chaos in the House. In December, 2024, opposition leader Rahul Gandhi and MP from Wayanad Priyanka Gandhi came to Parliament wearing t-shirts with anti-Adani slogans on the back. The t-shirts were a protesting message against industrialist Gautam Adani, suggesting that he was in close contact with PM Modi. The opposition had demanded that a joint parliamentary committee be established to investigate Adani's business and connections with the BJP-led central government.
