New Delhi: In an effort to improve transparency and efficiency, the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) has implemented a GPS tracking system to monitor the supply of ghee used in the preparation of the famous Tirupati laddus. The decision came after concerns were raised about potential discrepancies in the supply chain of the essential ingredient, which plays a key role in making these sacred offerings.

Addressing supply chain concerns

The ghee used in the preparation of laddus at the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) is supplied by KMF, one of the largest milk cooperatives in Karnataka. The newly installed GPS tracking system will allow officials to track ghee containers in real time, ensuring that the supply process remains transparent and efficient. This move comes amid ongoing concerns about the authenticity and timely delivery of the ghee to the TTD kitchens.

The KMF Managing Director emphasized that the installation of GPS in the vehicles transporting the ghee would help guarantee the quality of the product and avoid any potential tampering or mismanagement during transit. The tracking system is also seen as a way to address any complaints about the quality and quantity of ghee being supplied to TTD, which has been under scrutiny in recent months.

A step toward better accountability

The implementation of the GPS system is part of KMF’s larger strategy to maintain the high standards associated with the Tirupati laddus, a staple for pilgrims visiting the sacred temple. With real-time monitoring, the supply chain is expected to become more accountable, ensuring that the production of these revered offerings continues smoothly.
