Uttar Pradesh: A serious allegation has emerged against a private hospital in Meerut, where the director and five others have been booked for allegedly removing a woman's kidney without consent during her treatment in 2017. The case, initiated by Kavita Devi, highlights concerns over illegal organ trade and medical malpractice. The police have registered the FIR following a court directive, and an investigation is currently underway.
Allegations of Medical Malpractice
Kavita Devi claims that she underwent surgery at KMC Hospital in Meerut in May 2017 to address unspecified health issues. After being discharged four days later, her health did not improve, leading her to seek further medical tests in 2022. To her shock, she discovered that her left kidney was missing. Devi alleges that hospital staff misled her with false reports indicating that both kidneys were intact and even confiscated her medical documents when she sought answers.

Threats and Intimidation
The situation escalated when Kavita and her husband confronted the hospital staff about the missing kidney. According to her statement, they were threatened with violence if they did not withdraw their complaints. Such intimidation tactics have raised serious questions about patient rights and hospital ethics in the region.
Denial from Hospital Director
Dr. Sunil Gupta, the director of KMC Hospital, has vehemently denied all allegations, calling them baseless and an attempt to extort money. He claims that the complainant has no substantial evidence to support her claims and accuses her of initially demanding ₹5 lakh, which later escalated to ₹12 lakh after they refused to comply. The hospital's legal troubles are compounded by ongoing proceedings with the Ghaziabad Consumer Forum.
