A fierce gunfight broke out in the early hours in Srinagar’s Khanyar area as security forces launched a joint operation to neutralise a suspected militant reportedly hiding in the vicinity. The operation, led by the Quick Action Team (QAT) of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP), commenced late last night amid intensified security measures.

Joint Operation by CRPF and JKP

The joint operation began after credible intelligence pointed to a militant’s presence in the Khanyar area. The CRPF’s specialised QAT unit and JKP’s SOG team collaborated to initiate a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO), restricting movement in and out of the area as they moved in on the suspect’s location. This tactical approach was intended to prevent any potential escape and ensure maximum safety for the local residents.

Exchange of Fire as Security Tightens

Gunfire erupted in the early hours, with sporadic shots exchanged between the security forces and the suspected militant as efforts continued to neutralise the threat. The surrounding area has been secured with additional forces deployed to maintain public safety and prevent any escalation.

This incident underscores the ongoing challenges in ensuring security in sensitive regions and the swift response capabilities of the joint forces. The situation remains dynamic as further updates are anticipated from authorities.
