J-K News: A 45-year-old woman, Abida, succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday following a grenade attack at a bustling flea market in Srinagar on November 3. According to officials, Abida, a resident of Naidkhai in Bandipora district, passed away at the SMHS hospital, bringing a tragic end to her ordeal.
Attack Linked to Lashkar-e-Toiba Operatives
The Jammu and Kashmir Police have apprehended three terror associates connected to the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) outfit in relation to the attack. Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, V K Birdi, stated last Friday that the case was swiftly resolved. "Srinagar police cracked the case in very little time, collecting significant evidence and arresting the terrorists and their associates," Birdi said.
Identities of Arrested Suspects Revealed
The arrested individuals have been identified as Usama Yaseen Sheikh, Umar Fayaz Sheikh, and Afnan Mansoor Naik, all residents of Ikhrajpora, Srinagar. Police revealed that the trio played a crucial role in planning and executing the attack. Usama Sheikh, an over-ground worker (OGW) with a prior history of terror activities, carried out the grenade attack.
Suspects Linked to Pakistani Handlers
Authorities disclosed that the arrested individuals acted under the guidance of two Pakistan-based handlers of the proscribed LeT organization. However, the identities of these handlers remain undisclosed as investigations continue.
Prior Criminal History of Usama Sheikh
Usama Sheikh, the primary executor of the attack, was previously arrested in 2018 in connection with a case registered in Nowhatta. He had been incarcerated in Central Jail, Srinagar, before being released on bail. Police confirmed that the suspects were instrumental in providing logistical support, reconnaissance, and executing the attack. As investigations progress, the authorities aim to unravel the full extent of their network and connections to terror outfits.
