India at G20 Summit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Modi lauded the growing India-Italy friendship and its potential to significantly contribute to global welfare. The discussions revolved around strengthening collaborations in defense, security, trade, and technology. “India-Italy friendship can greatly contribute to a better planet,” Modi shared on X, emphasizing cultural and educational exchanges as additional areas of focus.
India and UK Relaunch Trade Deal Negotiations
In a significant development, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced the relaunch of Free Trade Agreement (FTA) talks with India, starting next year. Starmer expressed optimism about forging a robust trade deal and strengthening ties in areas such as security, climate change, and education.
“For India, the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the UK is of immense priority,” Modi posted on X, describing the meeting as “extremely productive.” The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) called the interaction a fresh impetus for the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, highlighting mutual priorities in innovation and green energy.
Advancing Strategic India-France Relations

Modi also engaged in bilateral discussions with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, and leaders from Portugal. The talks aimed at expanding strategic partnerships in commerce and defense, showcasing India’s commitment to fostering global ties.
