IMD forecasts more rain as Chennai, Bengaluru face water-logging delays

New Delhi: As torrential rains continue to lash Southern India, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Chennai and Bengaluru for Saturday, October 19. In Chennai, visuals reveal significant water-logging across several roads due to the incessant downpour.

Bengaluru experiences foggy morning amid rain forecast

Meanwhile, Bengaluru woke up to a fog-covered Saturday morning, resembling a scenic hill station. The city's temperature stands at 23°C, with forecasts predicting fluctuations between 20.49°C and 26.67°C throughout the day.

Earlier this week, parts of Chennai experienced extreme rainfall. Notably, Cholavaram recorded 30 cm of rain, followed by Red Hills at 28 cm and Avadi at 25 cm. As a result, the IMD has issued an orange alert for several districts in Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, Thiruvallur, and Chengalpattu.

Political clash over flood mitigation in Tamil Nadu

In the aftermath of the rains, AIADMK took a dig at the Stalin-led government over its flood mitigation efforts. Chief Minister MK Stalin countered these claims, asserting the government is well-prepared to manage heavy rainfall. Bengaluru is expected to endure heavy rains until October 24. The IMD has forecasted that the city's temperatures will range between 20°C and 28°C. Currently, drizzles have been reported in various parts of the city, including Whitefield and Jayanagar.

Cricket match disrupted by Bengaluru rains

Bengaluru’s wet weather also interfered with the ongoing cricket match between India and New Zealand. The rain delayed the match on Day 4, with play resuming at 4 PM, though there’s still a chance of further interruptions.
