FIR filed against Rahul Gandhi in Odisha over 'anti-national' remarks

An FIR has been lodged against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Odisha’s Jharsuguda for allegedly making "anti-national" statements, following a complaint by BJP and RSS members.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi faces legal trouble in Odisha after an FIR was registered against him for alleged "anti-national" remarks, triggering a fresh political showdown. 

FIR lodged against Rahul Gandhi over controversial remarks

In a significant development, an FIR has been filed against Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district for allegedly making "anti-national" statements. The complaint was lodged by members of the BJP, its youth wing, the RSS, and the Bajrang Dal, who accused Gandhi of deliberately making remarks that "threaten India’s unity and sovereignty."  

Legal charges under stringent sections

The FIR (Case No. 31) was registered at Jharsuguda police station under sections 152 and 197(1)(d) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). These sections criminalize acts that endanger India’s sovereignty and the publication of misleading information that threatens national security.  

Jharsuguda Superintendent of Police (SP) Parmar Smit Parshottamdas ordered the registration of the FIR after the complaint was forwarded by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Northern Range, Himanshu Lal.  

Political Storm: Congress Dismisses Allegations  

Reacting to the FIR, former Union Minister and senior Congress leader Srikant Jena dismissed the allegations as politically motivated. "I do not know the nature of the allegation against Rahul Gandhi, let me see it first. The Congress has been fighting against the ideology of BJP and RSS,"Jena told PTI.  

BJP, RSS Accuse Rahul Gandhi of Repeatedly Insulting India

The BJP and RSS have been vocal in their criticism of Rahul Gandhi, claiming he has a history of making statements that "damage India's reputation globally." The complaint accuses him of "deliberately attacking the nation’s integrity" through his remarks.  

This development is expected to further intensify the ongoing political battle between the BJP and the Congress, especially with the upcoming elections on the horizon.
