Karnataka: In a chilling incident of honor killing, an 18-year-old girl was brutally murdered by her father in Karnataka after she refused to marry a man chosen by him. The father, Motiram, reportedly hacked his daughter to death in a fit of rage after she defied his marriage plans. The shocking murder took place on Friday afternoon in Aurad taluka, igniting outrage across the state.
Father’s rage over rejection turns deadly
The 18-year-old victim, whose name has not been disclosed by the police, had previously been involved in an affair with a boy of her caste. The relationship had caused considerable embarrassment to her father, Motiram, who had lodged a police complaint when she ran away with the boy last month. The couple was later found and the girl was safely returned to her family, but the relationship was soon ended.
Despite this, Motiram continued to press his daughter to marry someone of his choice. When she refused, stating that she had no interest in marrying anyone, her father reportedly lost control. Authorities claim he first thrashed her with a wooden stick and then strangled her with a rope, ultimately killing her in the middle of the afternoon.
The murder takes place in her mother’s absence
At the time of the brutal attack, the victim’s mother was not present in the house. She had gone out to fetch water, leaving her daughter alone with her father. The absence of the mother allowed the accused father to carry out the murder without anyone intervening.
Father arrested, case registered
The local Santhpur police were alerted to the crime and immediately launched an investigation. The police have arrested Motiram and charged him with murder. A senior police officer confirmed the incident, stating that the murder occurred in a fit of rage after the girl rejected her father’s attempts to arrange a marriage for her.
"We have registered a case of murder at Santhpur police station and arrested the accused father in connection with the incident," the police official said.
