Farmers call for Punjab bandh on 30 December; List of things that will remain closed
Punjab’s statewide bandh paralyzed daily life as farmer unions enforced a complete shutdown with support from trade and social organizations.
On Monday, 30 December 2024 farmers have announced for Punjab Ban where all the shops all over the states will remain close along with the disruption in roads and rail services. The state of Punjab will witness a complete shutdown on Monday as farmer unions led by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha is heading a massive protest. From 7 AM to 4 PM, roads and rail lines will be barricaded, bringing life to a standstill.
No Supply of Essentials Amid Shutdown
During the bandh, several trade organizations joined the movement, resulting in a halt in the supply of milk, fruits, and vegetables. Essential services are limited, with only ambulances, wedding vehicles, and emergency cases are permitted to move. "Government and private institutions are requested to stay closed. Only emergency vehicles or those in dire situations will be allowed," said a senior farm leader.
Broad-Based Support for the Protest
The decision to call for the statewide bandh was finalized last week by farm leaders Sarwan Singh Pandher and other coordinators of the SKM and KMM. Various groups, including traders, transporters, employee unions, toll plaza workers, laborers, ex-servicemen, sarpanches, teachers, and social organizations, extended their support. This collaboration amplified the protest’s impact across the state.

Farmers’ Protest Intensifies at Border Points
The unrest stems from farmers camping at Shambhu and Khanauri border points between Punjab and Haryana since February 13. Their march to Delhi was halted by security forces, leading to an escalation in their demonstrations. These protests underscore the farmers’ determination to demand government action on their grievances.
