New Delhi: Delhi Police have successfully apprehended Chanderkant Jha, a notorious serial killer known for his gruesome crimes in the national capital between 2006 and 2007. His arrest follows a months-long manhunt after he jumped parole in October 2023, leaving the community in shock.

The Capture of a Notorious Criminal

On January 17, 2025, Chanderkant Jha was arrested at Old Delhi Railway Station as he attempted to flee to Bihar. The 57-year-old had been on the run for over a year, having evaded capture since his parole. Police had placed a bounty of Rs 50,000 on his head and formed a specialized team to track him down. This team meticulously traced Jha's network of associates and conducted reconnaissance at his previous crime scenes across Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar.

A History of Horrific Crimes

Jha's criminal history dates back to 1998, with his first recorded murder occurring in Adarsh Nagar, Delhi. Over the years, he killed at least 18 victims, often targeting young men whom he befriended under the pretense of helping them find work. His modus operandi involved tying up his victims and strangling them with a nunchaku before dismembering their bodies and disposing of them in plastic bags near Tihar Jail. He would even leave taunting notes for the police at the crime scenes.
