Delhi: Heavy rain in leads to flight diversions, severe waterlogging
The heavy rain resulted in significant waterlogging across various parts of Delhi. This has revived distressing memories of the tragic incident at a coaching center in Rajinder Nagar last Saturday, where three students lost their lives due to flooding.
At least 10 flights bound for Delhi were diverted on Thursday evening as the national capital experienced heavy rainfall. The meteorological department announced around 7 PM that thick clouds had gathered over the city "from all four sectors" and that the downpour was expected to continue for two hours.
Severe waterlogging in multiple areas
The heavy rain resulted in significant waterlogging across various parts of Delhi. This has revived distressing memories of the tragic incident at a coaching center in Rajinder Nagar last Saturday, where three students lost their lives due to flooding. The same road where the coaching center is situated has been inundated once again, with visuals showing residents navigating through knee-deep water.
Authorities on high alert
In response to the flooding, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has directed all officials to stay vigilant and address waterlogging issues, especially in areas where coaching centers are located.
Have cautioned all officers to remain alert in light of the ongoing heavy downpour in Delhi. Apart from ensuring minimum inconvenience to people in general, they are advised to specifically address issues at sites prone to waterlogging, including coaching centres.
