Delhi Court extends Manish Sisodia’s judicial custody in CBI, ED cases
Manish Sisodia, who remains incarcerated in Tihar Jail, was first arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in February last year on corruption charges linked to the alleged excise policy scam.
A special court in Delhi on Wednesday extended the judicial custody of former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia. Special Judge Kaveri Baweja prolonged Sisodia's custody in the money laundering case until August 13 and in the corruption case until August 9. This decision came following Sisodia's production before the court upon the expiration of his previously granted judicial custody in both cases.
Charges on Manish Sisodia
Manish Sisodia, who remains incarcerated in Tihar Jail, was first arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in February last year on corruption charges linked to the alleged excise policy scam. Subsequently, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) also arrested him in a money laundering case while he was already in jail.
Supreme Court's involvement
Recently, Sisodia approached the Supreme Court, challenging the Delhi High Court's decision to deny him bail in both the CBI and ED cases. The Supreme Court has issued notices to both agencies regarding his bail pleas, which are set for further hearing on August 5.
Previous bail attempts
Earlier, the Supreme Court had rejected Sisodia’s bail pleas in October last year for both the corruption and money laundering cases. The court, however, allowed Sisodia to file fresh bail applications in the trial court if there were changes in circumstances or if the trial was delayed. Following this, Sisodia's fresh bail pleas were also dismissed by the trial court, and these decisions were upheld by the Delhi High Court. Now, Sisodia’s appeals for bail are pending before the Supreme Court.
