Delhi Assembly Election Results: BJP leads with 40 Seats, AAP trails with 30 seats in early trends

The counting of votes has been started and is underway for the Delhi Assembly elections on Saturday. According to early trends, The Bhartiya Janta Party(BJP) isa leading on 41 seats whereas Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is ahead on 27 seats.

Early trends: BJP holds lead in 40 seats, AAP in 30

 As the counting of votes continues for the Delhi Assembly elections on Saturday, early trends indicate the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading in 40 seats, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is ahead in 30 seats. A party requires 36 seats to secure an absolute majority in the 70-member Delhi Assembly. This result will determine if the AAP can continue its reign for a fourth consecutive term or if the BJP will return to power after 27 years.

Key constituency updates: BJP and AAP in strong contests

Several constituencies have emerged as battlegrounds with tight races between the two major parties. BJP's Paversh Sahib Singh is leading in New Delhi, where he is facing AAP's Arvind Kejriwal. Similarly, in Kalkaji, BJP's Ramesh Bidhuri is leading against AAP's Atishi, while in Patparganj, BJP's Ravi Negi has a lead over AAP's Avadh Ojha. AAP, however, is making strides, with Manish Sisodia leading in Jangpura against BJP’s Tarvinder Singh Marwah, and AAP's Amanatullah Khan leading in Okhla against BJP's Manish Chaudhary.

Exit poll predictions: BJP marginally leading 

Polls conducted by five major agencies predict the BJP securing between 38 and 43 seats, while the AAP is projected to win between 26 and 32 seats. Despite these predictions, AAP has expressed confidence in forming the government with Arvind Kejriwal continuing as Chief Minister for a fourth term. Senior AAP leader Gopal Rai revealed that reports from the ground suggest a close contest in 7-8 constituencies, indicating a nail-biting finish.

Security measures for counting day

 In preparation for the assembly election results, Delhi Police have deployed 10,000 personnel across 19 counting centres. Two paramilitary companies will guard each centre, and stringent security measures, including metal detectors, hand-held scanners, and X-ray machines, are in place. Mobile phones will be strictly prohibited within the counting centres, and law enforcement agencies are working in coordination with political parties and returning officers to maintain peace and order.

With the Assembly election results set to be announced on Saturday, Delhi Police have ramped up security, deploying 10,000 personnel across 19 counting centres. Two paramilitary companies will guard each centre, with Delhi Police managing external security. Mobile phones will be strictly prohibited inside the centres, and advanced security equipment like metal detectors and X-ray machines have been set up. Additional officers have been appointed to ensure law and order throughout the day.

Election transparency: VVPATs to be randomly selected

To ensure transparency in the counting process, Delhi’s Chief Electoral Officer Alice Vaz confirmed that 5,000 personnel, including counting supervisors and assistants, will be involved. Random selection of Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trails (VVPATs) will be conducted at each constituency, reinforcing the credibility of the electoral process.
