Chhattisgarh: Voting for the first phase of the three tier panchayat elections is being held in 53 blocks of Chhattisgarh on Monday.The Chhattisgarh State Election Commission has announced the schedule for the upcoming three-tier panchayat elections, which will be conducted in three phases on February 17, 20, and 23, 2025. These elections aim to fill 1,75,258 positions across various levels, including district panchayat members, janpad panchayat members, sarpanches, and ward members. Over 1.58 crore voters are registered to participate, with voting set to occur at 31,041 polling stations. Notably, 7,128 of these stations are categorized as sensitive, and 2,161 as highly sensitive.

Unlike urban local body elections, which utilize Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), the panchayat elections will employ ballot boxes. The counting of votes will take place immediately after each phase of polling. In preparation for the elections, the Model Code of Conduct has been enforced in the poll-bound regions, prohibiting the announcement of new schemes, projects, or financial incentives by the government. The State Election Commission has appointed election observers and expenditure monitors to ensure compliance and scrutinize campaign spending.

BJP won mayoral posts in all ten municipal corporations and the post of chairperson in 35 municipal councils and 81 Nagar panchayats.He stated that this "historic victory" reflects people's faith in the public welfare schemes implemented under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership. To promote voter participation, an awareness initiative titled "Jaagbo Voter" (Awaken Voter) has been launched, with gram sabhas organized in rural areas to inform citizens about the electoral process. The first phase of voting is scheduled for today, February 17, 2025. Voters are encouraged to participate actively and exercise their democratic rights.
