Chennai University sexual assault: Court expressed outrage, directed state to pay compensation

National News: A Arun,who was handling the Anna University sexual assault case, faces severe outge and criticism from the Madras High Court on,Saturday due to his misconduct at  early stage of the investigation. The Court, displeased with the action, formed the all-women special investigation team (SIT) to reinvestigate the case of the first-year student. As the First Information Report (FIR) was deliberately leaked, exposing her personal information.


SIT in charge 

Advocate PS Raman agreed with the court and state that the Tamil Nadu government supports the formation of SIT and gives it's full consent. Due to the court's vacation paeriod, the vacation bench of Justices  S M Subramaniam and V Lakshminarayanan formed the SIT which involve senior Indian Polic Service (IPS) offecers Bhukya Sneha Priya, Ayman Jamal, and S Brinda.


Compensation of Rs 25 lakh

Additionally, the court expressed its displeasure at the leak of the FIR, and stated that it was a voilation of the victim's rights. The bench of Justices also orderd Rs 25 lakh compensation to the victim for the trauma and humiliation faced by the victim along with the providence of free education at Chennai University. 


Safeguard of the victim

"If necessary, the Tamil Nadu government would initiate the action against the Chennai Commissinor of Police for revealing the details of the investigation to the media," the bench added. The orders were passed on Friday, and NCW would take action on its own initiative and will address the issue of sexual assault on the student of Anna University. The DGP is instructed to ensure the safeguard of the victim and that she gets the free medical checkup and assistance throughout.
