Chandigarh set to see relaxed business norms as govt pushes for growth
The Cabinet Secretariat of Government India organized the inaugural compliance reduction meeting which took place on Tuesday in Chandigarh to simplify business rules and create better conditions for companies as well as urban development frameworks.

The Cabinet Secretariat of Government India organized the inaugural compliance reduction meeting which took place on Tuesday in Chandigarh to simplify business rules and create better conditions for companies as well as urban development frameworks.The central government established plans to develop a business-friendly environment by relaxing zoning regulations together with simplifying land use adjustment procedures and implementing digital regulatory approval systems.

Cabinet Secretariat through Government of India organized the inaugural meeting about business regulations simplification and regulatory easing as part of their compliance reduction activities in Chandigarh on Tuesday.The meeting received joint organizational leadership from SCL Das as secretary for the Union ministry of MSME and Rajiv Verma as chief secretary of Chandigarh. The de-regulation exercise for Chandigarh has Das as its core leader while reporting to the Cabinet Secretariat.
Transit-Oriented Development
Participants at the meeting focused on changing zoning regulations together with easier process for land use changes through digital approval procedures to support business expansion yet preserve the city's master development ideals. Flexible zoning norms alongside Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) received attention as part of the discussion about land use and zoning at the meeting. The committee proposed revisions to building construction regulations that would simplify setbacks along with FAR limitations and include independent inspection programs under current standards. The labor law reform proposals introduced the option to permit women to work at night and involved extending workday durations and making industrial firing procedures easier to handle.
PM Gati Shakti portal
The Master Plan of Chandigarh aimed to integrate with PM Gati Shakti portal for optimized land use through an updated single-window system covered under utilities and permissions.Labour laws reforms advocated extending female work into nighttime hours while raising work duration limits and condensing rules for industrial staff layoffs. Through the utilities and permissions section the government aimed to expedite approvals for industrial licenses and environmental clearances and fire NOCs through their single-window integrated system and digital governance platform which incorporated Chandigarh’s GIS-based Master Plan with the PM Gati Shakti portal for land use planning.
Deputy director for Cabinet Secretariat
At the meeting Das was joined by Anuja Bapat as deputy director general alongside Nayantara Sasikumar as director for the ministry of MSME and Prerna Joshi as director for DPIIT and Anshuman Kamila as deputy director for Cabinet Secretariat together with Darpajit Sengupta from NITI Aayog. Rajiv Verma and UT finance secretary Diprava Lakra joined Mandeep Singh Brar, Prerna Puri, Amit Kumar, Hari Kallikkat and other Chandigarh officers and UT home secretary Mandeep Singh Brar during the meeting.
